While the warm summer nights at the Filene Center are behind us for now, the music doesn’t stop this fall. If you want to discover something new or enjoy a long-beloved artist, The Barns has a show for you!
For the Legend Seekers
Seeing a legendary artist live is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Anyone who caught last summer’s performances by Trey Anastasio, Patti LaBelle, and James Taylor won’t want to miss their chance to see more icons, such as Graham Nash, at The Barns! Ring in the festive season this December with gospel greats at the Blind Boys of Alabama’s Christmas show. Then kick off the New Year with The Del McCoury Band!
Family Fun Sing-A-Longs
Looking for a show that engages the whole family? Last summer’s The Sound of Music Sing-A-Long and ABBA: The Tribute thrilled audiences at the Filene Center, and The Barns offers even more opportunities to join in song. Third Reprise performs the best showtunes from Broadway and movie musicals in a groovy, new way. In December, join the DC Anthem Singers for holiday carols, pop covers, and more!
Classical Escapades
Did you enjoy Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony or Wolf Trap Opera’s performance of La bohème last summer? Then it sounds like Chamber Music at The Barns is right up your alley! Experience world-class performers such as the Viano Quartet, Wolf Trap opera alum John Holiday, and more in Artistic Advisor Wu Han’s final season.
Country Crossovers
Making his Wolf Trap debut at The Barns is the renowned T Bone Burnett, known for his role in uniting Filene Center favorites Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. Burnett, who produced the unlikely duo’s debut album in 2007 and their latest release in 2021, is a master at creating powerful musical collaborations. For even more crossovers, check out a solo performance this November by Jess Williamson, who is one half of the duo Plains with Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield, and Nashville Emerging Artists Night which introduces six fresh country music talents.
Big Band Energy
If you loved the boundless musical energy of Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, be sure to check out other big bands at The Barns. Mariachi Herencia de México fills the stage in November with vibrant music inspired by the best of Spanish Harlem. If retro swing is more your style, check out the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies’ holiday show.
For Broadway Lovers
Musical theater fans always have a home at Wolf Trap! If you were in the audience for Kristin Chenoweth, Ben Platt, or Broadway in the Park last summer, you’ll be delighted for an invitation to The Barns this season! From Broadway royalty like Norm Lewis to theatrical funnyman Tituss Burgess and the combined vocal prowess of five Broadway alumni in The Doo Wop Project, the options are plentiful.
Worldly Beats
Global icon Shreya Ghoshal blew away audiences with her spectacular show last June. Now, experience a more intimate version of worldly sounds at The Barns. Dig the jazzy jams of South Africa’s Abdullah Ibrahim Trio and Brazil’s bossa nova queen Eliane Elias. For more cross-cultural performances, check out the highly accomplished instrumentalists of DoosTrio as they blend musical traditions from Iran, China, and India.
For News Buffs
Is tuning in to NPR a staple in your week? Fans of NPR’s live quiz show Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me will love to see All Things Considered host Ari Shapiro at The Barns! The journalist and singer presents a solo cabaret act inspired by his recent New York Times best-selling memoir, The Best Strangers in the World. Having previously shared stages across the country with Alan Cumming and performed at the Filene Center with Pink Martini, this marks Shapiro’s first solo appearance at The Barns.
Classic Throwbacks
The Beatles and The Beach Boys are “Here, There and Everywhere” at Wolf Trap. If you enjoyed seeing The Beach Boys or RAIN: A Tribute to The Beatles at the Filene Center, check out a perfectly curated show by Newmyer Flyer. Talented DMV musicians will bring “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “Got to Get You Into My Life,” “Caroline, No,” and more from the pivotal albums Pet Sounds and Revolver to life once again.
