As America’s only National Park dedicated to the performing arts, Wolf Trap’s Filene Center continues to be one of the most unique and welcoming venues in the country, with an ongoing commitment to diversity, accessibility, and year-round entertainment. For over five decades, Wolf Trap has been a cherished community gem, seamlessly blending the arts with nature. Recent enhancements at the Filene Center reflect Wolf Trap’s commitment to being the perfect destination for everyone.

Here are five exciting reasons why the Filene Center is the perfect destination for everyone:

1. Accessible Pathways

If you’ve visited the Filene Center recently, you’ve seen the most in-demand update to the venue: aisles!

In 2022, seating in the lower orchestra level was reconfigured to improve accessibility. The seating now includes two new center aisles, a crosswalk along the back of the Orchestra section, and accessible seating that offers extraordinary views of the stage. These enhancements ensure that everyone can navigate the venue safely and comfortably.

2. An Elevated (Literally!) Experience

Visitors will find something new at the Filene Center this year: the Meadow Commons—a brand new multi-level building with enhanced amenities.  

One of the Meadow Commons’ most important features is the addition of two elevators that connect the lower levels of the venue to the top area of the Park. These elevators provide entry from the accessible parking lot to the Plaza, where patrons can enjoy features like dinner or a picnic at Ovations or the Meadow Overlook without encountering a single stair. Positioned adjacent to the Filene Center, the new building also features upgraded, accessible, and family restrooms, making it a truly inclusive space.

3. Picture Perfect Picnicking

While Wolf Trap has always prioritized accessibility, the new Meadow Commons takes it to another level with a picturesque, pergola-covered patio for picnicking with breathtaking views of the Park. With four new picnic terraces that now replace mulch-covered slopes, there’s a perfect spot for everyone to relax and enjoy a meal—whether purchased at Concessions or brought from home!

The widened pathway ensures easy travel to these accessible picnic areas. Hydration stations and delicious and diverse food offerings at Concessions make the experience even more delightful.

4. Enhanced Patron Experience

Before even entering the Park, visitors are greeted with exceptional customer service, including the opportunity to speak directly with the Patron Services team for assistance with purchasing the right tickets to fit their needs and coordination with the National Park Service to inform patrons about parking.

For patrons with hearing and visual impairments, Wolf Trap offers a range of assistive technologies, including hearing loops, captioning services, and audio descriptions for select performances. These features ensure that everyone can fully enjoy performances. Those who need assistance, such as ASL interpreters, should contact patronservices@wolftrap.org to request accommodation two weeks in advance of their performance.
